Hi there! Mama here.

Okay, so it's been a busy couple of weeks in the Sweet Home kitchen. First, there was some major spring cleaning to be done since the weather was just peachy keen here in Michigan, and then this past week the Sweet Home clan took a trip to Boston, where I was culinarily (yes, I made that word up!) inspired by the fabulous chicken parm at Giacomo's and the to-die-for cannolis at Mike's Pastry on Hanover Street in Boston's (predominantly Italian) North End. The perfectly crusty cannoli shells were full of the richest, smoothest ricotta we'd ever had, then liberally sprinkled with miniature chocolate chips, which made for a perfectly mouth-watering dessert. We really can't say enough good things about those cannolis...we got an extra one to take home and it didn't even survive the car ride. We might even have a special cannoli-making day in the Sweet Home kitchen if we start jonesing for them in the near future, which seems highly likely. If you're ever visiting Boston, I definitely recommend you try one. (Or, if you've got a hundred bucks to spare, you can order them by air mail on Mike's website.) Delizioso!

In other news, business is on the rise as more people get wise to Sweet Home's tasty wares--we've been distributing samples to friends, family, and coworkers with vigor! There's been so much inquiry, we're thinking it's about time to go live with this site and let people know what Sweet Home à la Mama is really all about. ;)

Until next time,

Sweet Home à la Mama

Hi there! Mama here.

The day has finally come for Papa and Mama to register Sweet Home à la Mama at the Genessee County Clerk's Office! We love our business name and we want to hold on to it, so registration is the first step in ensuring that when you see "Sweet Home à la Mama" on a package, you know you're getting the same high-quality stuff you've come to know and love...and not some knock-off! ;)

At first, we weren't even sure what to do with this whole business thing, but then we read through this Guide to Starting and Operating a Small Business from Michigan's online One Stop Business Resource Center to familiarize ourselves with the process (and a million other things about owning a small business!), and that has been really helpful.

Even with as much work as it's been, we are still super excited to be off the ground and running with all of this. One of the coolest things that has happened is that we got some really nice display racks from our local Blockbuster's store-closing sale! Twenty bucks (a shrewd but bonafide offer made by me) got us a bright red display rack (which I may paint teal like everything else in the house...only time will tell), and for a solid dollar each, we got two Lazy Susans for displaying our Granola Mix-Ins. Oh, happy day!

It seems like every day we're learning more and more about this stuff. We're bound to make some mistakes along the way, but right now we're just having fun doing something we love, and that's nothing to shake a stick at!

Until next time,

Sweet Home à la Mama

Hi there! Mama here.

The past few weeks have been crazy busy as we've tested our wares, figured out proper labeling, ordered packaging materials, passed out samples, and worked on this website, but it's all been worth it now that Sweet Home à la Mama is finally a reality!

This business is a true work of love that has been a long time in the making. Baking is such great fun for the family, and nothing says home quite like baked goods fresh from the oven.

Over the past three years, we've set our sights on perfecting our staple product: a hearty, healthy, and yummy granola that will knock your socks off. It always disappears before you can say "I'm going up for more!" Muesli and biscotti are the newest additions to the Sweet Home repertoire and we're sure you're going to love them, too!

What you see here are the same recipes we use in our home kitchen and serve to our friends and family, and it is our sincere hope that you will love our products as much as we do. Just a quick call or an email and you can set up a time to visit the Sweet Home kitchen and sample some of our homemade products. We can't wait to meet you!

Until next time,

Sweet Home à la Mama
